The music video for “Si Te Vas” by the Mexican band Sotomayor, a single from their album Wabi Sabi, is built around the themes of nostalgia and the experience of leaving behind friends and one’s home country. The concept imagines a playful fictional match where the Sotomayor siblings face off in a disco-style soccer game.
The story
The music video for “Si Te Vas” by the Mexican band Sotomayor, a single from their album Wabi Sabi, was developed around the themes of nostalgia and the emotional experience of leaving behind friends, memories, and one’s home country. Inspired by global moments such as the excitement surrounding international football and Mexico’s role as a World Cup host nation, the concept imagines a playful fictional scenario in which the Sotomayor siblings face off in a vibrant disco-style football match. This narrative blends music, sport, and celebration to reflect the bittersweet feeling of departure while maintaining a joyful and energetic tone.
The project brought together the work of many collaborators across different departments. The art team created a striking disco soccer ball that became one of the central visual elements of the video, while the wardrobe department sourced affordable football jerseys to shape the visual identity of the match. Hair and makeup added personality and color, and actors, actresses, and dancer friends from our production community joined the cast, helping build a festive atmosphere that carries through the screen. The result is a music video that celebrates Latin culture, football, and the lively spirit of the classic street games many of us grew up playing with friends.
The Challenge
One of the main challenges of the project was recreating the scale and excitement of a football stadium with a very limited budget. To achieve this, the entire production relied on the collaboration of friends and close collaborators, combining creativity, resourcefulness, and a shared passion for the project. Through collective effort and enthusiasm, the team was able to build an atmosphere that feels energetic and celebratory on screen despite the modest resources.
